The City of Sammamish incorporated in August 1999 and is the newest city to incorporate in King County with the population of over 38,000. With a growing number of new roads, community infrastructure, and new parks, Sammamish is a city destined to succeed and grow further.

Sammamish is located on the eastern shore of Lake Sammamish, with Issaquah to the south and Redmond to the north. It's a great community to raise families with its tree-lined streets, beautiful homes, and well groomed neighborhoods. In fact, Sammamish has the highest percentage of children under 18 in all of King County. The city also has two school districts and both the Lake Washington School District (northern Sammamish) and Issaquah School District (southern Sammamish) offer top rated education.

In the heart of Sammamish the new Town Center Project is underway. When completed it will include a new city hall, police station, 20-acre park, recreation center and a new library.

The City of Sammamish was recently voted the number 11 place to live in the country. This vote was done by CNN Money Magazine. It took into account other medium size city's and ranked them according to what they had to offer their residents, including economic opportunity, good schools, safe streets, things to do and a sense of community.

Sammamish also earned third place in a "best for business" ranking of 35 suburbs in the Puget Sound region. The business magazine pushed Sammamish toward the top of the list based on the city's "low-crime rate, high property values" and "well-educated populace."

The name Sammamish is derived from two Native American words:

Samena - hunter and mish - people.
